Product Spotlight: Focal K2 Power

September 11, 2017 By Staff Leave a Comment

Focal K2 PowerClients looking for a fantastic speaker upgrade often choose the Focal K2 Power series from California Car Sounds and Tint in Campbell. Designed and manufactured at the Focal factory in Saint-Étienne, France, the K2 Power series of subwoofers, component and coaxial speakers have made the Focal brand famous all over the world. Let’s take a look at the technologies in the K2 Power series and how they help reproduce your music with that signature Focal sound.

Composite Cone Materials

Focal K2 PowerYears ago, Focal teamed up with a composites expert to design a woofer cone that provides a balance of mass, rigidity and damping. The current ES, EC and E series products feature cones that are a sandwich of Kevlar, fiberglass and foam. Each cone is constructed on an aluminum mold, then trimmed to size and weighed to ensure consistency from unit to unit. The cones are attached to the aluminum baskets with Focal’s new Tuned Mass Damper surround. The TMD surround controls distortion better than previous designs to provide natural sound reproduction.

Power Handling

All Focal K2 Power speakers are designed to sound good and play loud. To handle the power to reproduce your music at high levels, each speaker incorporates a large-diameter voice coil to manage heat better. Ventilation around the voice coil gap improves power handling even more. Finally, careful suspension component selection allows for high excursion levels. Some midrange drivers have more than 5mm of excursion.

The New TKM Tweeter

Found on component and coaxial speakers, the new TKM tweeter features a unique M-shaped inverted dome design. This new shape provides better energy transfer from the voice coil to the cone for reduced distortion and increased clarity. Focal says frequency response extends up to 22kHz for smooth sound reproduction.

Focal K2 Power Subwoofers

Focal K2 PowerAvailable in 10- and 12-inch models, the E Series subwoofers are designed to produce visceral low-frequency output from compact enclosure designs. The composite Kevlar cone and oversized dual magnet design reproduce bass with excellent linearity and impact from acoustic suspension (sealed) and bass-reflex (vented) enclosures.
